Resize image without losing quality: what to know

Making a file smaller means throwing away some data, so nothing is perfectly lossless. What you can control is what gets thrown away. Cutting pixels first and keeping JPEG quality at a decent level looks much cleaner than keeping every pixel and crushing the quality.

That is what this tool does when the Best quality box is on. Start from the original photo, not a copy sent over a chat app, resize only once, and never enlarge a small picture because that adds blur, not detail.

Tips

Questions

Is lossless resizing possible?

Making a picture smaller always drops some data. Resizing by pixels at high quality looks lossless to the eye.

Does upscaling help?

No. Enlarging a small photo adds blur, not detail.
